Can you believe that is is ALREADY September and – dare I say it – fall?! I truly cannot believe that the rest of summer, and so much of September, has flown by. I haven’t had much time to write these past few weeks. However, before we dive head-first into fall, I did want to recap some of the highlights of my summer in Toronto. Read on for all of my Toronto summer highlights.
Much of the summer was spent doing multiple book signings across the city. My latest blog takes a full deep dive into the many events across Toronto. Since then, I wrapped my last book signing of the season at Coles in the Beaches. It was really fun to connect with so many people at signings across the city. I’ll have more coming up later this fall, so keep your eyes peeled for updates!
Apart from working and book signings, I had lots of fun exploring different spots around the city. My mom recently came for a visit and we visited many classics around Toronto. My personal favourite was visiting Toronto Islands and biking around! We also visited lots of parks including Riverdale Park for a beauty sunset, and Christie Pits for lots of outdoor movies in the park. Of course, you can’t forget the summer classic of a Jays game – I got to take in a couple which were super fun!
I’ve enjoyed some exciting arts and culture events too. I scoped out the Cry Baby Gallery which also has a speakeasy bar at the back. I had never been before and it was really cool! The art in the gallery was incredible. A few weeks ago, I also enjoyed Shakespeare in the Park for a performance of Romeo and Juliet in High Park. It was so good! I hadn’t seen this before and it was really cool to see the performance on a small stage in a park setting. Highly recommend checking it out for next summer!
Soaking up the sun has definitely been fun, but I’ve had other highlights as well. I’ve been to lots of yoga classes exploring different studios across the city. Multiple cafe visits have been a blast, and a journaling meetup with my journal club was also excellent. Recently, I also closed out the summer fun with TIFF. They sold out of tickets very quickly but I was able to get one ticket for the world premiere of Min Sook Lee’s latest documentary. It was beautiful and hard and moving. An incredible experience to be a part of.
Last but not least, I had the opportunity to enjoy the Casa Loma Summer Series while my mom was in town. We went for the Disney special on their last night of the season, and it was fantastic! Casa Loma is such a beautiful setting. We had some delicious ice cream, and also wine, before settling in to hear the orchestra. They were truly incredible and it was so nostalgic to hear many Disney songs! The whole night was nothing short of magical. It was the perfect end to both my mom’s visit, and my summer in the city.
Now that summer is officially over and we are diving right in to fall, my next few months are quite busy with travel. However, I’m looking forward to coming back to Toronto for the fall season too. The fall is my favourite and the colours in Toronto truly can’t be beat! I’m anticipating some fun book events later this fall too. Until then… enjoy this change in seasons. 🍂
